Benefits of Synthetic Turf
Here are some facts and benefits of artificial grass. Synthetic turf installed in North America annually conserves more than three billion gallons of water, eliminates nearly a billion pounds of pesticides and fertilizers, and recycles more than 105 million used tires. It has also empowered millions of individuals as well as businesses to reduce their carbon footprints. You can also read our artificial grass FAQs page here.
Many of the components used in the production and installation of our greens are sourced from 100% post consumer recycled products. Artificial turf products have played a large role in the reduction of recent overcrowded landfills
Allergen & Bacteria Resistant
Synthetic grass does not produce or harbor air born allergens. It is also resistant to mold development. Stopping air born spores before they form. Normal contact will not upset even the most sensitive skin. A great alternative to allergen and bacteria laden natural grass
Gas & Oil Savings
No more gas, no more oil. Another substantial step to reducing our carbon footprint and reliance on foreign oil suppliers. All our turf is also produced right here in America, supporting the American workforce
The combined money savings of water, gas, trimming, and chemical treatment means our artificial grass installations quickly pay for themselves. Many states also offer tax credits for “green” construction projects. The question becomes not why, but why not?
National Greens turf stops the use of harmful pesticides and fertilizers which pollute drinking water, destroy natural habitats, and endanger small children and pets
Water conservation is one of the greatest benefits synthetic grass provides. Not only is water cost greatly reduced, runoff water is free from pesticides and fertilizers which often can’t be filtered. Synthetic turf has truly become a “green” product

Synthetic Turf Council Impact Findings
Significant Environmental Impact Conserves over three billion gallons of water. Water is one of our most precious resources. More than 6,000 synthetic turf fields are currently being used in the United States, with each full-sized field saving between 500,000 to 1,000,000 gallons plus of water each year.
During 2010, that meant at least three billion gallons of water, and perhaps as much as six billion or more, was saved through the use of synthetic turf fields. Eliminates the need to water lawns. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), over one-third of residential water is used for lawn irrigation nationwide, totaling more than 4 billion gallons of water a day.
The Southern Nevada Water Authority also estimates that every square foot of grass replaced with synthetic turf saves an additional 55 gallons of water per year. Therefore, an average lawn of 1,800 square feet will save 99,000 gallons of water a year if landscaped with synthetic turf – about 70% of a homeowner’s water bill, or up to $500. Eradicates the use of almost a billion pounds of pesticides and fertilizers.
The EPA has identified runoff of toxic pesticides and fertilizers as a principal cause of water pollution. In Florida alone, the EPA estimates that about 1,000 miles of rivers and streams, 350,000 acres of lakes and 900 square miles of estuaries are impaired by runoff of pesticides and fertilizers. Synthetic turf eliminates the need for nearly a billion pounds of harmful pesticides, fertilizers, fungicides and herbicides which are used to maintain grass.
Keeps more than 105 million used tires out of landfills. Most of the synthetic turf sports fields and landscape applications in use incorporate crumb rubber infill recycled from used tires, keeping more than 105 million used tires out of landfills. Prevents smog and noxious emissions. According to the EPA, lawn mowers are a significant source of pollution that impairs lung function, inhibits plant growth, and is a key ingredient of smog.
A gas-powered push mower emits as much hourly pollution as 11 cars, and a riding mower emits as much as 34 cars. In addition, the EPA estimates that over 17 million gallons of gas and oil are spilled each year from refueling lawn equipment; that is more oil than was spilled by the Exxon Valdez. Reduces grass clippings.
The EPA estimated in 2002 that 12% of what goes into landfills is yard waste. During the summer months, clippings can account for nearly half of a community’s waste. Switching to synthetic turf reduces this significant source of environmental pollution. Schools, parks, businesses, municipalities, homeowners, golf courses and others using synthetic turf can receive Leadership in Energy andEnvironmental Design (LEED) credits for Water Efficient Landscaping from the U.S.
Green Building Council www.usgbc.org. Many synthetic turf companies have also created products that are 100% recyclable. ‘Green’ options also exist for recycling, reusing and disposing of infill and the synthetic turf itself. The industry is working hard to develop further eco-friendly end-of-life disposal solutions.
About the Synthetic Turf Council Based in Atlanta, the Synthetic Turf Council was founded in 2003 to promote the industry and to assist buyers and end users with the selection, use and maintenance of synthetic turf systems in sports field, golf, municipal parks, airports, landscape and residential applications.
The organization is also a resource for current, credible, and independent research on the safety and environmental impact of synthetic turf. Membership includes builders, landscape architects, testing labs, maintenance providers, manufacturers, suppliers, installation contractors, infill material suppliers and other specialty service companies. This diagram shows the general construction and layers of our Mono-Filament synthetic lawn surface. Once the dirt surface is shaped to desire we compact the surface and pin Geotextile Fabric over the complete synthetic lawn work surface.
Next we create the static base of the artificial lawn by laying layers of Crushed Granite in finer grades until it resembles formed concrete. The granite surface it constantly soaked and compacted to insure the surface is uniform and solid.
Once completed the surface acts as a solid slab of granite insuring a perfect grade to your lawn. The Synthetic Lawn Turf is then applied to the compacted granite base.
Silica Sand is now evenly applied to the surface of the lawn and brushed in to allow the fibers to stand up straight. After the sand is finished a top layer of Green Top Dressing sand is applied. This gives the lawn a perfectly consistent and natural green tone.

Artificial Golf Turf
This diagram shows the general construction and layers of our outdoor synthetic putting surface. Once the dirt surface is shaped to desire we compact the surface and pin Geotextile Fabric over the complete synthetic golf green work surface. Next we create the shape and surface of the green by laying layers of Crushed Granite in finer grades until it resembles formed concrete.
The granite surface it constantly soaked and compacted to insure the surface is uniform and solid. Once completed the surface acts as a solid slab of granite. A thin Foam Pad sheeting is then applied to the surface granite only where the putting green will be present. This aids in the putting greens ability to accept chips from a distance. Once the foam is all down the Synthetic Grass is applied to the foam surface.
Silica Sand is now evenly applied to the surface of the putting green and brushed in to allow the fibers to stand up straight. After the sand is finished a top layer of Green Top Dressing sand is applied. This gives the putting surface a perfectly consistent and natural green tone. The fibers are finally brushed aggressively to soften the fibers and heavy compacted to provided perfect surface and stint speed.
Indoor Golf Greens
This diagram shows the general construction and layers of our indoor synthetic putting surface. Once the flooring is cleaned and prepared a Shock Absorbing Foam Pad is applied to its surface. This foam pad allows indoor greens to accept chips naturally. The Indoor Specific Turf is then applied to the foam base.
Depending on the synthetic turf selected some Silica Sand may be used to give the synthetic fibers base structure a firm footing. Most modern indoor specific turf do not require brushing or compacting of the fibers.
Slit Film Premier Golf Fiber
This diagram shows the general construction of our Slit Film Premier Golf playing surface. This is our highest performance synthetic putting green turf. Slit Film turf is unique because the fibers activate altering shape and structure to create a perfectly modeled golf playing surface.
The fibers of this turf are finely slit and tightly spun to create a column of fine turf fibers. This allows the sand infill to fall to the base of the turf giving it a solid footing and loading it for “activation”. As the green is filled with sand the fibers are brushed aggressively. This allows the fibers to unwind and spread, filling with sand as they do.
After sand and brushing is complete we roll the fibers down with a heavy weight roller to further flatten and tune the playing surface. Once complete this creates a fine surface of small, soft, and evenly spaced fibers to provide perfect PGA golf stint speeds.

A shock absorbing pad, one of the crucial safety components, is then placed over the crushed granite at a thickness that can be determined by you as your playground requires. Silica sand is laid over the absorbing pad, to act a drainage layer, and finally, granulated rubber is applied to form a firm, safe surface.
